The International Friendship Club [IFC] has financed a program of children with a Cleft Palate since 1987. This program grants free medical consultation and treatment to all those children who are born with a cleft palate or harelip. The donations that you make act as an instrument or a chance for these children to have a surgery.
IFC of Puerto Vallarta A.C., in collaboration with the Regional Hospital Of Puerto Vallarta on the 4th of February assembled free medical consultation for all of those individuals who had meager or absent economical resources. These medical consultations were for all of those children who were born with a cleft palate.
This program was initiated by Celia and Ron Walker who lived in Puerto Vallarta, in 1976 when their friends baby was born with a cleft palate. Their obvious concern for the family and the children led them to Dr. Ezequiel Fuentes who was a surgeon in Guadalajara. Helping one child led to another and soon there were a lot of children who sought the expertise of Dr. Ezequiel Fuentes. Ron then arranged the skilful surgeon to come to Puerto Vallarta and they approached the IFC in order to provide sponsorship and funding for this cause. The International Friendship Club has supported and aided this noble cause since 1987.
More than forty children profit yearly from this reconstructive surgery, which is further preceded by orthodontia and speech therapy. In various cases the entire procedure takes up to 15 years to be completed. Dr. Fuentes and his Team of Surgeons, voluntarily with help of your donations continue this bighearted cause which gives a new rejuvenated life to all the children. All the costs are covered by The IFC from start towards the end for the Surgical Team as well as their families. The generosity, effort, skill and time of Dr. Fuentes, his Surgical Team, and the Regional Hospital are appreciated, and honored amongst all those who care about this cause. Without them, this noble program would not have been possible. The IFC in 2008 applied and received funding from the Smile Train foundation, in order to cover some of the expenses.
Your constant support and generosity gives a chance to all of these disfigured children to get a surgery that they deserve. Realizing that you are a part of this organization will be both gratifying and heart warming for you.
