Drugs are used commonly all over the world and its usage is classified in to two types: people who get addicted to it and those who do it just for fun.

Both classifications have certain differences between them. People, who are addicted to drugs, cannot control its usage and are urged to use them regularly. These people cannot focus on other things in life, are completely dependent on drugs, and lose control on their mind and body. They also become psychological patients, at times, and are usually diagnosed with mental disorders, in which their brain does not perform normally.

Recreational drug is said to be used when a person uses drugs for recreational purposes rather than medical reasons. The user is not addicted to the drug, and does not require it on a daily basis for functioning in a situation. This term is commonly mistaken for drug addiction, which is a misconception. Recreational drug-use refers to the use of drugs in ways other than culturally accepted ones.

Various reasons compel these people to start taking drugs; however, it is different in both categories. Habitual drug users take drugs to control their depression and relieve their tensions, which commonly happen due to their family abuse fights etc. On the other hand, people who take drugs for enjoyment, do so in order to be acceptable in their social network and to have a good time. They relax together and experience the effects of the drugs on them.

Another difference is that people who are addicted to drugs need to take it regularly; otherwise, they can get reactions or withdrawal symptoms that need to be controlled. They then need to be treated by proper medication and supervision. However, recreational drug users mostly have control over their intake, and do it only for social reasons in get-togethers or parties. If they do not take it regularly, they do not have any withdrawal symptoms.

Habitual addicts do not have control over their minds and can lose everything for drugs. They usually waste all of their money in drugs and are not bothered about their future. However, people who take drugs for fun, get in to this habit just because they can afford to do so, and they know how to control it.

The types of drugs that these two categories use differ from each other. Most of the leisure drug users go for lighter drugs such as valium, marijuana, ecstasy and other drugs. On the other hand, addicts go for harder drugs such as cocaine, heroin, and OxyContin and crystal meth. These drugs are very dangerous for the body since they are not just hard to let go off but also make a person go completely high as compared to the lighter drugs.

However, most of the leisure drug users are potentials for becoming drug addicts if they are not careful in their drug intake. It is in the control of the person how much drug he takes and what kind; otherwise, he might have to face the consequences.
