Drug consumption is a habit of uncontrollable urge to satisfy your body with a drug. Drug addicts need to have a regular dose of the drug to function. The drug consumes their thoughts, and behaviour.

Prolonged use of drugs can have negative and harmful effects on both your body, and mind. Anything that alters the normal body function is very harmful if it is used regularly, and with this regular intake, the drug addicts tend to develop an acceptance to the drug. In order to achieve the same effect their consumption is accelerated.

Most drugs have many things in common, but they have different effects on the body. The most major effect of drug abuse is that is destroys the immune system. The immune system protects our body from any harmful diseases, and prevents us from being sick. Drug abuse causes a weak immune system, and the body is left unprotected against common diseases such as flu, and infections.

Drug abuse gives you a slower metabolism, and kills the appetite most of the time. This is why drug addicts are very weak and underweight. It leads to constipation by affecting the intestine, and the stomach. It can also develop osteoporosis, and weakens the bones.

Stimulant and depressants drugs have different affects on your body. Stimulant drugs increase your heart rate, and blood pressure, which can lead to the development of cardiac problems. The depressant drugs lower down your heart rate, and blood pressure, which slows down your reaction time.

Drug abuse also leads to negative effects on your organs. Drug addicts who smoke develop a weak respiratory system, and damage to the lungs. They have a tendency to develop lung cancer, and breathing problems. Similarly, alcoholism also leads to permanently damaged livers if the drug is consumed excessively, as it makes it difficult for the body to release its toxins. Kidneys are also damaged due to drug addiction.

Drug addiction also prevents vitamins and minerals to be properly absorbed into the body. This is the reason drug addicts have weak, thin hair, and weak nails. They also have poor skin tone as the blood circulation in their body is constricted. Many drug addicts are also anaemic and have low iron absorption.

Drug addiction effects for a long lasting period on your body; it can also cause an irreversible damage to the body. Constant use of drugs means that the drug is stored in to the fatty tissues of the body, as it constantly deteriorates your health even after you have consumed it.

It is important to get help if you or any of your friends is a drug addict, and should be sent to a rehabilitation centre immediately.
