The wonderful sport of fishing has been around longer than anyone can date back. Fishing rods and reels of some kind have been used for thousands and thousands of years. Initially people fishing to put food on the table. These days it has become a very popular sport, and is done by many just for fun. They catch the fish, and then release the fish unharmed, maybe sneaking in a picture or two also.
So if you are ready to get involved in this wonderful sport there are some basic fishing tackle items that you will need. Since there are many types of fishing that can be done, I am going to cover the basic types of tackle you will need for saltwater fishing inshore, such as flats fishing.
You will need to make sure that you have a couple of rod and reel set ups. If there are only 2 people that are fishing, then it would be ideal to bring 4 rod and reel set ups on the boat with you, or as many as you can fit. There is no time to set up a new fishing rig when something happens and the fish are biting.
One thing that I constantly forget to bring with me on the boat is a net to scoop the fish out of the water with. This is not essential to have but it will greatly lower the odds of you loosing a prize fish because they shake them selves off of the hook before they get into the boat.
One thing that every angler should have in their possession is a cast net. They come in many different sizes from a couple of feet to nearly 20 feet. Once you learn how to throw the bigger ones getting you live well full of live bait will be extremely easy.
Since we are talking about fishing inshore, it is recommended that that you have a trolling motor on your boat. With a trolling motor you will be able to reach certain spots in shallow water and low tide that you will not be able to get to with a regular boat motor, plus you will be able to sneak up on fish easier with out spooking them.
