Films and television have become an indispensable part of our mundane routines, and every so often we find ourselves hooked to the screens. Though it is easy to pass them off as regular stuff, anyone involved with the production processes would know, what it takes to put up the final product on the screen.

Films and television are both about presenting pictures in motion. These form the most popular modes of expressing ideas, which may otherwise go neglected. Many individual images when put together form a film. These images are referred to as frames, which are displayed rapidly in succession to provide the illusion of motion. Though their easy accessibility has made us play down the efforts put into them, a close scrutiny would reveal how much goes into the making of each frame.

Hard work, as we know, brings out handsome results but it is not the only factor that goes into making a successful production. Theres thought and there are people, who bring it to life. Also, like plays of the bygone decades, film and television production require a variety of equipment like a script, set, lights, sound system and several professionals including actors, directors, dancers. However, unlike the olden times, films and television reach out to a wide audience throughout the world and the film business has seen immense upgrading in the recent past.

The techniques may have advanced manifold but the basics remain pretty much the same. Everything, when it comes to film and television production, starts with a thought, a plan or a notion.

Initiating the production process

Production begins with an idea, which may have sprouted from a play, a book, an inspirational story, some other film or just mundane happenings. Once you have a rough picture of what is going to be presented on the screen, you start to visualize it. The producers and the writers get down preparing a step outline, so the story is split into smaller scenes that can be fitted into frames.

Then comes the scriptwriter, who polishes the content and ensures the clarity of dialogues and also brings out a healthier picture of the characters. Once the producer is satisfied with the script, all adapted to his specifications, he works on the financial and legal issues involving the film.

And since were all well versed with the importance of capital for any business, there is little point reiterating the fact that the producers go looking for potential financers. They try to present an appealing picture of their film and prepare for signing contracts.

Other aspects of film and television production
The identity of anything that is put up on the screen comes, in part, from the people who star in it. Selecting the right people for lighting up the screen is one crucial step and the director may hold auditions for many weeks, until he or she gets the ideal cast.

Also, a frame is required to be filled with subordinate actors and extras, which may be hired via professional casting companies. Once the cast members are finalized, contracts are signed with them regarding their recompense and the time that theyll be required to work for.

Production of a motion picture is also dependent on the crew members, including the cameramen, electrical technicians, professionals taking care of the sound and light and several other skilled technicians.

Once all the elements are in place, the producer and the director shoot off with a green signal, putting in weeks, months and sometime years of hard work and hoping to create a striking picture for our screens.
