Key loggers are devices that were programmed to monitor the activity of a workstation or a network of workstations. They were created to record the keystrokes from a computer keyboard and record them to a secret file for later review.

Software that covertly gathers information about the use of a computer can be considered spyware. These programs are typically installed without the knowledge or consent of the end user. Information is sent secretly back to a third party. Key loggers are used in the workplace to monitor employee computer activity. Additionally they can be used by law enforcement to capture information related to their investigations.

One of the most dangerous of threats that a computer user may possibly face is software that records all computer keystrokes. These devices may be hardware or software based. Due to the fact that they can capture and send highly sensitive information, they are classified as highly critical infections.

It is of vital importance to be able to determine if your computer has been infected with a key logger. These devices can record all keystrokes from a keyboard. Passwords, credit card numbers, documents, emails and other forms of sensitive information may be sent to the surveyor.

Key loggers may be included as a part of other spyware programs. They could be used by hackers that are interested in logins, passwords, credit card numbers, social security numbers and other forms of sensitive data. They may even be programmed to start every time that you boot your computer. Keystrokes may be captured from the time you start using your machine until you shut it down.

Key loggers may be installed for the purpose of stealing personal information. They could be used to get money by stealing password and log in information related to banks or to try and make you a victim of identity theft. Current statistics show that many key loggers are released monthly. They are considered among the best data capturing spy equipment that assist a user in capturing data when a person uses the keyboard.
