There is an endless sea of money to be made selling health and fitness products. Specifically, health foods are a great medium for making money.
And with all this profit potential comes an endless influx of health related products. The main problem here, however, is that a lot of what's promoted as healthy is not.
Thus, without further delay, here are some food items to stay away from:
1. Fruit juice: You can observe endless fruit juice concoctions being promoted as healthy. Even worse, some companies promote the anti oxidant levels of their formulations. What they don't tell you is how juice loses the majority of its antioxidants once it is processed. And they really don't tell you how most of a fruits' nutritional value is found in its peel and flesh.
2. Energy pills: You see, energy pills stimulate your sympathetic nervous system, the part of your body responsible for fight or flight responses. And when you over stimulate this system with energy pills, you can end up with adrenal fatigue or chronic fatigue. As a side note, energy pills are very harsh on your digestive system.
3. Mega dose multivitamins: More is not always better, and vitamins are no exception here. You see, once you start taking those horse pills, you can reach toxic levels for different nutrients. Moreover, solid food provides much more bio-available sources of vitamins.
4. Cereals: There are a couple good cereals out there, but the majority of them are simply boxes of crunchy sugar. In fact, one study showed that endurance athletes were able to exercise longer by NOT eating cereal before a workout.
5. Nutrition bars: Again, most nutrition bars are simply candy bars wrapped in "healthy" advertising. Simply take a peek at the nutrition label and you will see just how much sugary stuff is packed into these sugar bombs.
If you really want to maximize your health, stick to whole foods which have the most bio-available forms of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. The above foods can simply not compete with the power of natural food.
