Overcoming low self esteem can be difficult but if handled well can leave a positive mark on your life. We should start by letting you know that it's okay to have self esteem issues. It's a common problem, even though it may not feel like it sometimes. Everyone has days where they feel insecure; it's the way that you deal with it that makes it worse.
The first thing you should start doing is see what type of people you surround yourself. The relationships you have with people impact the type of person you are. The basis for some relationships is jokes. In this scenario you and your friends call each other names because it can be funny, and then say you do not mean it. Consciously you may actually not mean.
This is a very unhealthy relationship. It may seem all in good fun, but in reality this is not at all the case. Most of the time your mind will always wonders why they chose a certain insult. If someone called you fat you will wonder why they used your weight rather than some other insult.
You should also know that there are other types of unhealthy relationships. Another example is when someone constantly focuses on your flaws. By pointing them out repeatedly they are actually making you feel worthless. When someone does this write it down. You should always try and stay away from these kinds of people. If you can't do it then at least tell them what they are doing to you.
The next step is to get over the things that you have written down. If you feel insecure about your glasses, find beautiful people who also wear glasses. If they say you are too quiet, and you genuinely feel like that's a bad thing try and fix it. If it can't be fixed then you have to learn to accept it.
You should know that cosmetic procedures and stuff of that nature may make you look prettier, but you will always feel the same way. For example, if you wanted to get liposuction you may look pretty but your mind cannot change how it feels about itself in a day. It's a process. If you had tried to lose weight naturally, the mental process would have worked with the physical process.
