To bring an elegant look of the Victorian style to your home, you may think you need to spend a lot of money. Because if you don't use some tricks when going about bringing in this style into your home, you will spend a bunch of money. Today this associated with the more upscale homes, when the style first came out it was based mainly in middle class homes.

The key to this style is to have many decorative items displayed throughout the space, and to use rich, dark colors for the walls and furniture. The way in which this is done successfully is in the choice of items that are displayed. An eye-catching combination of wood paneling, floral wallpaper, stained glass, pottery tiles, and parquet and marble flooring are the cornerstones of a well appointed Victorian home.

You may find while looking around for these types of accessories and furniture that you come across some high prices. But a great way to bring in the look of Victorian elegance is by getting some hardware that looks as if it came from a piece of Victorian furniture. Replacing the hardware on your furniture and other items you can change the look completely around. And the great thing about these items is that they can be found very easily.

Another thing that says Victorian style is moldings that are decorated and plaster. This is another option that can cost a bunch of money, and one that you can get around. Simply go and buy some wood cornices that have been painted. Place those up and you have the Victorian look, with a fraction of the cost.

Stained glass is a traditional aspect of any Victorian home, while stained glass is very expensive, accent pieces with stained glass are not. A wonderful Tiffany inspired lamp with a stained glass shade can be found almost anywhere at a very reasonable price. This will help you achieve the expensive and elegant look without having to purchase stained glass windows.

The traditional color scheme of any Victorian home was dark and rich colors; however this does give smaller rooms a claustrophobic feel to them. One ways to achieve this elegant look without making the room look smaller is to only paint one wall a deep color then paint the other walls in lighter tones. Floral wallpapers are another really easy way to give an expensive look to a room.

One of the easiest and most cost effective ways to really give any room a Victorian look is to use area rugs in combination with rich color schemes. The types of rugs best used to achieve this affect are Oriental rugs, straw-type rugs, hooked rugs, or rugs with floral or swirly abstract patterns. This will give the room warmth and a base for the entire design of the room.

The Victorian look is synonymous with class and elegance, but with following the above tips you can bring this look into your home without paying a lot. Check out those discount stores in your area, and be sure to look at flea markets and garage sales to see if you can find some great deals on the right accessories to add to your very own Victorian look.
