It is amazing that the word blog did not exist 12 years ago. It is first recorded use is in 1999 as short for web-log. Now everybody a hundred miles from an internet connection knows what a blog is. For the few that do not; it is site that includes an online journal with the thoughts and comments of a writer.

What types of blogs exist? Too many to count. What are the used for? Blogs can be used as a personal voice to the world, to share experiences and stories with friends and family or even as a business. To answer that question properly you would need a few libraries. However we will give it a shot and look at a few varieties of blogs.

Diary Blogging. This is the most typical type. It is a personal journal where the author writes about what they did that day; their thoughts about what is on the news; the last book they read; or what they thought about the last film they went to see. Unless you are a famous person you are not likely to get many readers. Although your family and friends will no doubt feel obliged to visit.

These are good if you like to write about yourself or you want to keep in touch with the people you care.

By the way, as you probably guessed, blogging is the act of writing in a blog.

Blogging for money. A great way to make some extra cash is to start your own money making blog. How does this work? Well you need to get plenty of people to visit your blog regularly. That is easier said than done, but if you can get over that first hurdle you are on the way to your first online business. Once you have visitors you can sell them products and services, whether your own or that of fellow internet marketers, yes, that is what you would be. If you do not like selling, you can always have adverts on your site, if your visitors click on one of these adverts, presto, you make a small profit. The profit is only a few dollar cents, but if you have enough traffic, it all adds up.

Making money with blogs is easy if you know how. A method that is often used by professionals is to practice cover marketing.

This method works by talking about a product or service is a supposedly neutral voice, maybe writing a review. The writer then tries to steer the reader to buy a product or use some service. If they do this after clicking on the hyperlink on the website, he just got himself an online commission. As you can see, blogs can be fun and profitable.
