In the state of Ohio in USA you will find the capital of the city and the largest city in that state. This is the city of Columbus. The city is considered as the county seat of Franklin County. Some parts of the city have extended into the Delaware and Fairfield counties as well. This city can be found at the junction of the Rivers Olentangy and Scioto. This city was named after Christopher Columbus the explorer who found America. In 1812 the city of Columbus came into existence and the various functions of the state capital began in 1816.
While there are many places that you can visit while you are in this state you will find that Columbus has some fascinating sights of its own. These sights will include a trip to the Scioto Riverfront. Here you will be able to look at a to scale replica of the Santa Maria. This replica ship was built and installed here in 1992 to commemorate the 500 year anniversary of Columbuss discovery of America. On the other hand if you prefer looking at nature you will enjoy yourself at the Franklin Park Conservatory. This is a botanical garden which opened in 1895. The conservatory is situated in Franklin Park and is just east of downtown Columbus.
For museum lovers you will find that Columbus is home to a number of different museums. For one such visit you see the Kelton House Museum and Garden. This museum is dedicated to Victorian life. It was built in 1852 and it was the home of three generations of Keltons. Additionally during the time of the Underground Railroad this house was a documented station. In the present time the museum hosted the Son of Heaven: Imperial Arts of China exhibit. This was a cultural exchange exhibition from China which showcased many artifacts used by the ancient Chinese emperors.
For a place that your kids are sure to love, you may want to take a trip into the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. This zoo and aquarium is famous the world over for the many animals who live here. You can see kangaroos, lowland gorillas, Siberian tigers, manatees and cheetahs to name but a few of the zoo inhabitants. Another interesting place that you should visit while you are in the zoo complex is that of the Zoombezi Bay Water Park and amusement park. In this water and amusement park you and your kids can have loads of fun on the various rides. Once you have finished your day here at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium you will find there are other sights awaiting you.
Of course if you are interested in seeing some great festivals taking place in Columbus then you are in for a treat. One such festival is that of the Hot Times festival which is held in the historic Olde Towne East. Here you can indulge your senses with great music, art and cultural diversity as well as fantastic tasting food and company. For some Fourth of July fun you will see the city of Columbus hosting the hugely popular Doo Dah Parade and the Red, White and Boom which takes place on the Scioto riverfront downtown.
As you see the city of Columbus is a happening city. You will find that in Columbus everyone in the family will have fun.
