French cooking style has had an extensive evolution over centuries. Starting in the Middle Ages, a unique and creative national cuisine began forming. The national cuisine developed primarily in the city of Paris with the chefs to French royalty, but eventually it spread throughout the country and was even exported overseas. French food is always elegant and refined. The masterpieces of royal cooks have become a signature in French cooking.

One of the greatest French treasures is undoubtedly their rich cuisine. French people try to find as many occasions as possible to spend some time at the table, with their family and friends to enjoy the taste and flavor of good food and drinks. Basically, French cooking refers to the culinary art style of the French society encompassing their food choices, their preparation techniques, spice preferences, and other culinary characteristics. In the world of food, French cooking is considered to be one of the best approaches towards dealing with food and achieving the peak condition of gustatory satisfaction.

The approach to food in French cooking reflects the French love of dining, appreciation of fresh ingredients, and ingenuity in the use of available ingredients in the different territories. French regional cuisine is characterized by its extreme diversity and style. Traditionally, each region of France has its own distinctive cuisine accepted by both its bourgeoisie and peasants and other general citizenry of the regions. French cuisine varies according to the season. In summer, salads and fruit dishes are popular because they are refreshing and produce is inexpensive and abundant. The varieties included in french cooking involves different food classifications such as appetizers, main course meals, drinks, desserts, and even numerous choices for side dish and snacks. French wine and French cheese are an integral part of French food preparation.

The modern restaurant has its origins in French culture. Prior to the late 18th century, diners who wished to "dine out" would visit their local guild member's kitchen and have their meal prepared for them. Larger French restaurants and hotels employ extensive staff and are commonly referred to as either the kitchen brigade for the kitchen staff or dining room brigade system for the dining room staff. Spectacular French restaurants can be found throughout the city of Paris, the best of which use a combination of the freshest ingredients the nation has to offer. The most famous (and expensive) restaurants in Paris craft exquisite, flavorful meals that continue the city's tradition of the grand cuisine.

French cuisine and French cooking style is widely held to be the best, most refined food in the world.
