Each project has unique specifications that are bespoke to its requirements, therefore you an only make the decision of whether or not to hire a Project Manager to help implement the necessary steps to put your plans into place. To help with the decision we advise you to take into account your project time scales, team size, specification, resources and your suitability to the task.

It is recommended that you implement some initial research into what is required from the project and how much time and energy is needs to be invested. It is generally thought that hiring a Project Manger is an unnecessary cost that can be avoided by sharing out the job role between existing staff members or perhaps your thinking of doing the job yourself. Do you have enough spare time to invest into the project?

A good project manager is required to focus their intentions on to their team, focusing members to work towards a common interest. They will need to effectively manage their resources and allocate jobs, delegating workload and ensuring aims and objectives are satisfied.

A project will have a start and an end, have specific deliverables and result in a change to your organisation, which will impact long term on business processes.

The first job required by the project manger is to organise their time and staff, a plan needs to be drawn to keep budgeting and time management under control.

Managing a project can prove to be extremely demanding, it can become like a second job if you choose to take on the task yourself. Can you guarantee that you will be able to invest enough of your time to the cause? If the project becomes neglected timescales will slip and you may start to run over budget.

It is highly recommended that you dedicate time and thought into your choice to invest in a project manager, if you are implementing important changes. You may find it beneficial to not be to close to the running of the projects but simply over see that it is in control. Look for a person with proved time management skills and organisational experience.
