The image of accountants being dull, boring and nerdy is actually impacting HR and recruitments efforts to attract and retain quality people to the industry. It's as crazy as saying that all dentists are suicidal and all skydivers are mad nutters that need adrenalin to function. The stereotypes of most industries are completely false, accounting at the top of this scale!

Accountants by nature of their work must take a more cautious and risk averse path during their working day; this does not mean however that these people are boring and introverted outside working hours! People believe that because accountants indulge in figures all day long that they must be boring, dull and nerdy! Accountants are no more boring than many pop stars, actors and sky divers!

Accountants are becoming more important as the financial world impacts our lives greater and greater! Accountants are exposed to much more than number crunching these days; they are heavily involved in industry and take part in the running of companies. They have far more commercial awareness than they did say 20 years ago. This has impacted on accountants personality and business minds.

It is not uncommon for accountants to finance directors at large companies; these positions require participation at all levels of company management. Accounting skills can be applied at many business levels and an accountants viewpoint is well worth the listen when running a company.

As a result of the increased scope accountants are having in business, you'll find more and more accountants out there in the business, running these businesses, using their financial acumen to run other less figure oriented aspects. Young and new accountants will often work closely with people in other divisions such as marketing, branding, factory divisions. Accounting is far more than just figures these days and it pays to take a look under the stereotypical faade.
