There is a majority of people living in the world who are receiving properly structured drug treatment to bring about some betterment in their miserable condition. They all need some form of care, in order to help them deal with substance misuse problems.

Substance misuse is definitely stamped as a problem on a major scale that not only affects the life of the individual but also tends to shade the brighter aspects to his existence.

What is the term misuse referred to? This term is used for something which is used excessively and could prove to be very harmful if used on a regular basis. However, the people who indulge into such addiction to any form of substance do not tend to realize the fact that they are destroying their own lives with their very own hands.

Around the globe, there are also many cases which involve a huge number of innocent children who are living with the harsh realism of drug/alcohol misuse, which is done by either of their parents or family members. It is very difficult to make the elder people realize of the situation that they are facing due to this misuse. Any piece of advice which is given to them in order to help and assist them is totally rejected or is not welcomed by them. Therefore, the idea of this being a dilemma in the culture is quite compelling.

The challenge of substance misuse is an ever-growing dilemma that is presented before social workers in its own right, both for the people who are addicted to the use of the substance and for those who are around them. A lot of people with mental health problems also tend to have some kind of relation to the substance misuse problem. Various disorders ranging from depression or personality confusion are the consequences that are forced out from an individual who was or still is under the influence of any such substance misuse. As a consequence, the misuse of any such substance not only affects his personality but makes his life very stressful by creating a negative set of emotions around his existence.

A patient can be diagnosed with dual substance misuse and health problem, and therefore needs excessive care. For example, a patient may have a dual diagnosis. It could be that of schizophrenia and heroin addiction. Further physical health problems are also widespread among patients with a dual diagnosis, such as hepatitis, malnutrition and interrelated circumstances.

The initial stages of treatment need a lot of resistance from the addicts. The reason is that they do not approve of the negative affects of their drug consumption, no matter what it is. They feel that it is the drug consumption that gives them a sober attitude or else they would have lost that bit of composure.

The resistance is mostly against treatment, counselling, and care and therefore, it is a difficult process to influence the perception of the addict towards the complications affiliation with excessive substance consumption.
