There is a vital role of a project manager in carrying out a project. A rise in the demand of needs of a business has made the part of a project manager more crucial, and complicated than it was in the past. An efficient project manger must possess some qualities that are given below.

A project is managed through five process groups. They include initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and controlling. The final step is the closure of a project. The initiation of a project refers to proper and channelized allocation of resources. It is followed by planning. It refers to the identification of the process through which the project has to be executed. During execution, it is the responsibility of the project manger to monitor and look-after each step of the project. Under the supervision of the project manger, the project smoothly moves towards a fruitful closure.

Apart from the responsibilities of the project manager, some influencing factors need to be discussed. These factors include time, cost, and scope. A project manager has to consider, and cope with all these factors at every cost. He/she is responsible for developing an effective and productive project plan. He/she should be able to gain commitment on the project plan. A good project manager knows how to carry out the project with minimised scope creep. To accomplish his/her goal, he/she should be able to develop an efficient project team controlled by effective project control system. Practicing in all these steps, he/she should be able to proceed towards the efficient closure.

Additionally, good communication skills are very important in obtaining, and executing a project. So apart from all the above capabilities, he/she should also possess good communication skills to deal with his/her team, and the stakeholders. Moreover, a project manager should also possess good HR skills. These skills are critical for the efficient management of resources.

These days many organisations are utilising desktop software applications like Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Project in order to mange their projects effectively. Undoubtedly, such soft wares are helpful, but they also possess certain limitations. Sometimes these softwares do not provide enough help to link various parties effectively with each other.

Many times, the project manager will be conversing with an executive about a project, and after twenty minutes into the conversation, may find that they are both viewing two different versions of the project.

Another issue with using desktop applications is that the minute they are emailed to the project team, the project data is out-dated. That is, the information is not available in real-time. Projects are inherently dynamic efforts that change every hour, and sometimes minute.

A project management solution, that is 100% web-based, solves these issues by allowing project managers, and their team members to access project information from any browser in the world, at any time of the day, or night. The project information is centralised in one database, and is posted in real-time, assuring that all project members and executive management can view the most recent information about the project. A web-based project management software solution has the advantage of storing all projects, all resources, and their assignments in one centralised place. Unfortunately, not all web-based software is equal, so when you are evaluating systems, be certain to check to see if the solution can perform the following functions:

Prior to selecting a web based management system, one must check all its functions, and selects the one that suit the needs of a project.
