If you are just jumping into the search engine optimization space, you may not yet be familiar with the term White Label SEO. But you will shortly. White label SEO, also called private label SEO, is a term used to mean a reseller relationship. Specifically, in a white label SEO program the person selling the search engine optimization services is not the same person doing the work. This is fairly typical of a reseller arrangement.

But what makes the private label SEO set up unique is that the customer is completely unaware that the delivery work has been outsourced to another organization. This is what makes it "private" or "white." If you are familiar with the Value Added Reseller (VAR) world at all, then this is old news. But only recently has this approach been applied to search engine optimization.

So what are the big advantages of reselling SEO this way? Well the most obvious is that a new player in this field need not build an entire product offering. This may not seem like a big deal if you are thinking that search engine optimization is just changing a few meta tags and writing a report. The reality today is that the search engines have become extremely competitive. As a result, more and more SEO companies are moving to off-site SEO as a method for building better rankings for their clients. This means link-building, and tons of it. As you wade into the search engine optimization field, you will see that building a strong product is no longer an easy task.

While white label SEO may look like a great reseller opportunity from a cost perspective, there is a significant down-side as well. Specifically, you are not in control of the work. You have outsourced the SEO to your private label SEO partner. As such, they may not deliver to the standards you would want. This can become a customer service or retention issue really fast. As a result, you need quality control in place. Moreover, you should select your white label SEO partner very carefully. Spend a great deal of time with them and learn what they are really doing. Make sure you can trust them.
