How To Find Out Information About The Directors and Officers Of An Ontario Company

Do you wish to find out information about the officers and directors of an Ontario company? Would you like to find out who the President is and where the company's head office is located?

You can purchase an Ontario Corporate Profile Report. This report is sometimes called an Ontario corporate search or an Ontario company search.

Be sure not to mistake this report to be with respect to a sole proprietorship or a partnership registered in Ontario. In order to obtained information about those types of businesses you must do what is called an Ontario Business Names Search.

The report will indicate the following (1) registered office of the company, (2) the names and addresses of the directors, (3) the names, titles and addresses of the officers, and (4) a list of all filings made on behalf of the company including articles of amendment, notices of change, annual return filings, etc.

A corporate search is a provincial service and each province and territory has is own corporate search for the companies registered in that province or territory.

In Ontario you cannot obtain the name of an owner of an Ontario company. It is considered private information. However, determining who the directors are of the company in many cases leads you to the owners because frequently the owner will be a director. For larger Ontario companies and any public Ontario company this might not be the case.

There will be a box on the Ontario Corporate Profile Report which says yes or no. This box indicates whether there are any business names registered on behalf of the company but it does not tell you what those names are. If the report says yes to there being business names you will need to then order an additional report called an Ontario Business Names Report so that you can get a list of all the names.

If the actual company name has been different in the past you will be able to find out all the names that the company has ever had.

Depending on what province or territory you order the search it might be called something different, i.e. corporate search, company search, corporate profile report, etc. It is a good idea to be sure in advance of what you are ordering since some searches have similar names.
