Proposing to your girlfriend is something you get to do once, if you're lucky! It's important that you don't mess up!

The following tips will show you how to propose to your girlfriend, and survive:

1. Make it personal! The two of you should have many shared experiences, so you know exactly what she likes! There's no excuse for copying somebody else's idea!

2. You should not be surprised by her answer! If you're not completely sure she'll say yes, then you've probably not been going out long enough! You don't want her to say yes, only to change her mind!

3. Make sure it's a surprise for her! Don't make it an anti-***, this is her big moment after all!

4. Only make it a public proposal if you're extra certain she'll say yes! You don't want it to turn into a humiliating experience do you!

5. Guard the ring! Never risk burying it in sand or giving it to the waiter to serve for desert as some sort of elaborate proposal!

6. Go down on one knee! Yes it's corny, old and a cliche, but it's how she always imagined her proposal would be! So don't disappoint her!

7. Practice your words! Because she'll tell everybody that you messed up the most important words in both your lives otherwise. Practice in front of the Dog and mirror! What ever is necessary!

8. Make sure you have a romantic setting! Flowers, candles, music and good food! It's all about the romance over big and lavish!

9. If you want a long engagement, then propose in the spring time! This will give you a whole year to plan, or change your mind! For a quick wedding, propose in the winter!

10. Finally, enjoy it! This is your big moment! Just make sure you've thought through every eventuality and you'll be fine! Good luck!
