112: An American R and B quartet from Atlanta, Georgia. Formerly artists on Diddy's Bad Boy Records, the group signed to the Def Soul roster in 2002. They had great success in the late 1990s and early 2000s, most notably winning a Grammy in 1997 with the song "I'll Be Missing You" with Puff Daddy and Faith Evans for Best Rap Performance by A Duo Or Group. The group has sold collectively a total of about 16+ million records world wide; they have resigned with Def Jam and Bad Boy Records.
Boyz II Men: Boyz II Men is an American Contemporary Rhythm and Blues vocal group best known for emotional ballads and complex, intricate a capella harmonies. Based on record sales, Boyz II Men is the most successful R and B male vocal group of all time, having sold more than sixty million albums worldwide. In the 1990's, Boyz II Men found fame on Motown Records as a quartet, but currently the group is a trio signed to Decca Records, with members Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris (no relation), and Shawn Stockman. The group won four Grammy Awards in the 1990's, and the trio was nominated for two Grammies in 2009.
Akcent: Adrian Claudiu Sana started the group in 1999. At the time, it consisted of him and his female counterpart, Ramona Barta. Akcent's single "Kylie" has risen to the top of several European music charts. "Kylie" also became a moderate hit in the U.S., charting well on the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart. Their debut Romanian album In culori was released in Romania in 2002 on January 10, which had the hit single "Ti-am promis". Their English debut album French Kiss with Kylie was released in Europe in 2006 on August 23 and include their 2 European smash hits: "Kylie" and "Jokero". Their song French kiss (the English version of 9 mai) is a cover of "Extemporal la dirigentie" by Stela Enache (a Romanian singer that was highly acclaimed in the 80s and whose song "Ani de Liceu" with her husband is still a hit among teenagers).
ATL: The four members of ATL - vocalists Tre, Will, L-Rock, and rapper Danger, came together after being chosen though an Atlanta-area talent search. Where previous R and B groups (112, Jagged Edge) had crossed over into hip-hop, by either featuring a guest rapper, or appearing on someone else's album, ATL were a self-contained R and B/hip-hop/fusion band. The quartet enlisted R. Kelly to produce their dbut single, "Calling All Girls," which was released in 2003.
Blackstreet: An American R and B group founded in 1991 by Thomas R. Taliaferro Jr. and Teddy Riley, the inventor of New Jack Swing known for his work as a member of Guy. Chauncey Hannibal and Levon Little were signed under contract with Thomas Taliaferro and were merged into what became Blackstreet with Joseph Stonestreet featuring Teddy Riley. The current members are, Teddy Riley, Chauncey Hannibal, Dave Hollister, Mark Middleton, and Eric Williams. The first original members of BLACKstreet were Teddy Riley, Chauncey Hannibal, Levi Little, and Joseph Stonestreet. The original lineup released their first single in 1993 on the soundtrack to the movie CB4 starring Chris Rock titled "Baby Be Mine" featuring Joseph Stonestreet on lead and produced by Teddy Riley and written by Teddy Riley and Joseph Stonestreet. Stonestreet however left the group shortly after the single was released due to personal differences with Riley and was replaced by Dave Hollister.
Bad Boys Inc: As was par of the course for Boy Bands in the '90s, the band embarked on a publicity blitz and tours of under- and over-18s nightclubs and schools. Following their first UK hit, 'Don't Talk About Love', the band enjoyed international success with tours and promotion in Europe and Japan. Bad Boys Inc were one of the biggest bands at the time, alongside Take That and East 17. After their top twenty album Bad Boys Inc, and three top twenty singles including the top ten hit "More to this World" the band went on to win international acclaim by being awarded Best International Newcomer in both Denmark and Finland in 1994. They were also the first band to appear on the first ever UK National Lottery TV show before going their separate ways in the spring of 1995.
