Washing, drying and styling of hair is an everyday affair most of us are conversant with this process. Hair would naturally dry up in due course but to hasten this drying, we make use of hair dryers. Although science does not agree that we catch cold because of wet heads, people do not like wet head for long time.
A hair dryer is a very simple appliance and its operation basically depends on a fan within it. Working of an electric hair dryer is explained in the following paragraphs.
Immediately on switching on the hair dryer, the electricity rushes to the windings of the fan motor. Here, the transformation of energy takes place and the electrical energy is making use of to give momentum to the fan. This momentum produces the airflow. The fan situated in the hair dryer appears like a water wheel but its use is different.
Applying power to the hair dryer allows the motor to start spinning the fan, which in turn draws air in through the air inlets in the side of the hair dryer. A safety screen prevents other objects from entering the inner workings of the hair dryer.
Inside the functioning design you will find a heating coil and small fan. The heating coil is designed to heat quickly using its electric resistance and an electric current.
The heating coil is made of nichrome (an alloy of nickel and chromium) and is installed on an insulating board. Because nichrome is a poor conductor of electricity and does not oxidize when heated, it is the perfect choice to use for the heating coil.
This heating arrangement is placed in the path of the air that is pulled by the fan and is directed onto the hair through the barrel.
Hot air is controlled by a temperature switch, which controls the amount of electrical charge that is pumped through the wire when you turn on the dryer. Nowadays, you can rapidly dry and style your hair using a hair dryer.
