New Vs. Reconditioned Cylinder Head

Cost is the major factor in determining whether to get new or reconditioned engine parts. However, some new parts cost a great deal more than their reconditioned counterparts, so it could be worthwhile looking into getting some used parts - such things as reconditioned cylinder heads are usually good and a great deal less expensive than new ones.
A lot depends on the condition of the vehicle you want to put it into. In some cases the cylinder head may have already been replaced, but unless a modified multi layer head has been used the cylinder head is likely to blow and cause a great deal of damage. Such damage will cost a lot more to fix than buying a new cylinder head would have done.
The same applies to actually buying a reconditioned cylinder head for your vehicle. Unless it can be guaranteed to last for a long time, it is hardly worth the time and expense of putting it in. Remember that a car is only as good as its cylinder head. And if that blows it will cost a great deal more to fix the damage that has been done. That said, most reconditioned cylinder heads are of high quality and do last quite a long time.
To check if your vehicle's cylinder head has blown you will need to look for oil in the water or water in the oil. Your dipstick will take on a milky look if there is water in the oil, while the oil level will rise due to the added liquid.
Most people seem to go with using a reconditioned cylinder head when they have the problem of a blown cylinder head. However, if your vehicle is new and you are proud of it, you may want to shell out for a new cylinder head. At least you will be sure that it will keep going for a long time.
