Medical professionals have always been in demand with both the public and private sector crying out for quality personnel. Every role you can think of from dental nurse to physician are required in every dental hospital and private practice out there. With dental nurse jobs generally on the rise globally, there will always be openings for anyone considering a career in dentistry.

A dental nurse will primarily help out within the dental surgeon's lab though it is not uncommon for them to help our on the clerical side of the business as well as the clinical. Within the surgery they will prepare the rooms before each patient arrives, will prepare dental materials and instruments to be used by the dentist, make notes on the treatment carried out and required and ensure correct sterilisation of products. On the clerical side they will often make appointments and take payments.

There are wide range of career paths which a dental nurse may choose to go down. Dependant on the practice, they can become hygienists, therapists, an orthodontist's assistant or a specialist's assistant. Positions are also available in the overseas market, hospitals in both the public and private sector and the military.

A hygienist is someone that is concerned with the oral hygiene and in some cases they even administer local anaesthesia. An orthodontist assistant does everything a dental assistant does but in addition they may take x-rays, remove sutures and apply topical anaesthetics. Dental assistants all help the dentist by handing them tools and being their right hand person for anything the dentist may need.

Anyone can become a student trainee dental assistant but there is much more training required to become a dental nurse. You must have a high school diploma to enter the program and attend college. Once they graduate they must register with the general dental council. Many programs can be from 6 months to 2 years depending on the program. Many classes can be taken at night and the student can usually work in the day time. A dental trainee can work alongside of another dental assistant that has more experience and they can gain their experience that way. A trainee can also get their training while continuing their education in order to become licensed as a dental nurse.

Dental nurse jobs are some of the strongest recession proof careers around. There is always a need for professionals in the health care field because there is always someone that needs to have their teeth fixed or their bodies examined.
