You Too Can Use A Chainsaw

If you've got a yard that sometimes needs some trees pruned or tidied up, you may be intimidated by the thought of using a chainsaw to do the work yourself.

Because you fear the chainsaw your only option now are landscapers and tree-trimmers who will be walking away laughing with their pockets full of your money.

There is another option because chainsaws are not always necessarily large, dangerous and difficult to use.

There are available for men and women smaller scaled down versions of chainsaws which are easier to handle and less powerful.

There are both electric and gas powered models, which will handle different types of cutting with different degrees of comfort for the user.

Electric models are less powerful and will only handle smaller limbs. On the positive side, however, there is no cranking required and a novice may feel much more comfortable handling one. Some types are rechargeable while others require a long extension chord and a number offer both options for use.

These are good if you have a small yard and only need to cut limbs that are a few inches in diameter. No fuel will be needed but the liquid you will need to have is chain oil to keep it all running smoothly. Safety is the key to doing a good job so be sure the chainsaw you purchase is the perfect weight for you, test them before you buy them. Turn it on and let the salesperson show you how it runs so that you can hear the engine. Buy the largest model you feel comfortable using as it will be powerful enough to handle the greatest number of tasks.

Where you have downed trees and much thicker limbs of more than four inches thick you should consider purchasing a gas chainsaw instead. You may also find yourself working up to a gas model after you get comfortable with an electric one.

Pruning chainsaws are now manufactured by many companies and they do just that. Unlike the necessary upper strength needed to operate large chainsaws these pruning chainsaws have 14-inch bars and weigh significantly lighter. They run on a mixture of gas and oil and require chain oil as well. In addition to a longer bar - which determines the biggest limb or tree they can cut - they also have more powerful motors than their electric counterparts. Cranking ability is needed in these as well.

Follow the same procedures for selecting a gas-powered chainsaw if that is what you are looking for. Get one running by the salesperson so you can view for yourself how the weight will affect you and select an appropriate one. Holding a running chainsaw is always the best demonstration your could get.

Proper safety equipment must be worn when using any type of chainsaw and the equipment includes; safety glasses, leather boots and ankle protectors. A few lessons from an experienced chainsaw handles will give you the confidence and technique necessary for you to go and complete your own work.
