Few people realize the work that is put into making a great, well reviewed TV show in the modern era. The intense amount of work that's put into television shows is a big part of why there are so many obscure categories at TV award shows like the Emmy's, because there are so many people who need recognition for their work. Among the most often unrecognized people in the business are the people who deal with lighting. The lighting has to be just right in any given scene for all the actors and actresses to look good and for everything to go smoothly. Every now and then, backstage workers have to get a little creative with lighting and utilize something like a picture light or picture lights to make sure everything looks just right. Some of the most well received and popular shows these days are the ones that get that impeccable mixture of everything, including lighting, just right and make everything click and that's what will be talked about in the coming paragraphs, some of the most popular and well reviewed TV shows of today.

One show that has received universally excellent viewership and critical ratings during its five season run is, "How I Met Your Mother." The premise of the show is that it is a love story in reverse, with the main character Ted starting every episode by telling his kids a part of the story of how he met their mother a long time ago. Also among the cast are former child star Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel, star of the 2008 hit comedy, "Forgetting Sarah Marshall."

Another very popular show is the crime hit CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and its spinoffs. While the original show is set in Las Vegas, there are offshoots that are set in New York and Miami, and are very creatively titled CSI: Miami and CSI: New York. An bad effect of the show, however, is that now many people, including those who serve on juries, sometimes have unrealistic expectations of forensic evidence solving every criminal case ever. But, the show continues to roll on towards its eleventh season in the fall, it has clearly proved to be wildly successful with viewers with some macabre plotlines.

Another massively popular show in the past few years has in fact just been ended in May, and is titled, "Lost." "Lost," is based on an island after a plane crash, and when it came out was originally supposed to be based on the classic novel, "The Lord of the Flies" by William Golding. However as the show progressed, things got a little crazier than even in the novel and it turned out that all kinds of insane things were happening on the island. Few people ever actually seemed to be aware of what was going on with the premise of the show, but those who watched it were completely transfixed for its entire run and stuck with it to the end.

As one might think, with more choices in television shows and channels there are better ones that come out and better quality programming all around.
