Let's be honest, nobody likes living in or visiting a cluttered home. I've come up with several main reasons why decluttering should be a part of your life. I used these reasons as motivation to change my lifestyle to become more oganized.
The first reason - Stress. It is no secret that clutter causes stress. This has been scientifically proven in a number of studies. Cluttered environments relate stress to people in them. Could you experience this? I know I could. When my house is cluttered it causes stress in a few ways. I hate being in a cluttered room of mine, it makes me feel like a pig. I feel like I don't have control over my possessions. I also hate when I can't find something important because my house is so cluttered. There is a ton of energy, not only physical energy, wasted when you spend minutes or hours searching for things.
Time is the second reason. Everyone is busy nowadays, and living in a cluttered environment eats up your time because you spend a lot of time searching for things. Your home will run like a well-oiled machine when everything has a specific place it belongs and you know exactly where to find things. A decluttered home with everything where it belongs is a huge time-saver. You'll feel much better because of all the time you're saving.
The third reason - Appearance. Believe it or not, you truly are judged by others for having a cluttered home. If your peers see you as a disorganized person, they will think you are not as smart as you really may be. That is a fact. You can show people how you really are, clutter free and smart!
The key to the sometimes overwhelming task of decluttering, is to start small. You'll soon be in control of your clutter. A great place to look for helpful decluttering resources is the Internet.
