If you are planning your wedding, you are probably overwhelmed. One of the most important factors for your day is a great reception party. This is the celebration following your nuptials where your friends and family gather with you and enjoy the start of your new relationship. There are a several things that make your reception great and each aspect needs to be ideal for the whole day to come together and be memorable. You can start with a great space that makes you and your guests comfortable. Choose comfortable furniture that allows guests to sit and relax when not on the dance floor. Consider using a piano stool with piano bench cushions for seating that is out of the way and comfortable.
A great way to create a space with the right ambiance is to set up vignettes throughout the space. You can have areas that are dedicated to certain activities like dancing, dining, and mingling. Providing guests with seating that is quiet and private allows them to visit comfortably and enjoy quiet moments with you and their dates. You can also create areas where guests sign the guest book, take photos, and view the action.
Be sure there is plenty of delicious foods available for your guests. If you are serving food in a non-traditional way, be sure to be creative and offer plenty to keep guests from getting hungry. Choose foods you would want to eat and that make you feel warm and loved. There is no reason to serve boring or bland food at your reception. An open bar helps loosen up guests but it can cost a lot. Instead of offering unlimited alcohol choices to guests, choose a signature drink that guests can enjoy. This can be coupled with sodas and beer for a great selection that will keep guests happy. You can also create a wine or a microbrew beer if that is more your style.
The music you choose for your reception will set the mood for the entire event. If you want guests dancing and having a great time, supply them with the music they need. Have a selection of music that appeals to a variety of age ranges and mix in a few slow songs for some romantic turns on the dance floor.
Finally, you will want to consider entertainment other than the music. The last thing you want is guests getting bored on your big day. Provide activities for both kids and adults if you have both attending the wedding. If you have a theme wedding, make the entertainment blend with the theme. If yours is a generic event, you can offer dance entertainment, magicians, or live musicians.
