If your goals are to make it famous, I would suggest reading this first, because making it as a cover band can be very profitable and happen much much faster than trying to make it as an original band. The primary goal with a cover band is to make money. You can become a very successful musician playing nothing but covers, and easily turn it into a full time very well paid gig. So what does it take to make it as a cover band? Well first off lets talk about what kind of gigs your going after. As a cover band your going to be playing clubs, bars, restaurants, etc. At least to start off with. Eventually you can build up to playing large corporate events and the likes and bringing in some serious money. So how do you get in?
At first you're going to have to play some small gigs, maybe even some free gigs. The goal here is to simply get your name out there. Find some small places that have bands come out and give them a call. If you cant get them to pay you a little for your time, offer to do it for free and if it goes well then you can talk about coming back another time for a little money. Not a lot, just enough to make it a little more worth your time. The big money will come down the road, you have to start somewhere. One thing that you have to realize with this is that your music venture in this industry is a business. Your going to have to work at it, and I mean work hard. That being said, your business is going to be working with other businesses (Bars, Clubs, etc.) So why are they going to want to do business with you, i.e. fork up money to bring you out...
