Not so long ago the personal computer or PC was a novelty that many homes did not have. The use of PCs has continued an increase in the presence of homes in the United States from that time until now and shows no signs of stopping. There are so many useful manners in which a PC can be used that one reference such as this cannot adequately address them all. Suffice it to say that there are some basic manners in which people use PCs in their home that can be pointed to and referenced as some of the main sources that are the driving force behind why so many people are making the move to include at least one PC in their homes.
Internet The introduction of the Internet to the general public signaled a way for people everywhere in the country to access valuable information and keep in touch with each other over the world wide web of information that the Internet has. The saying goes that if you cannot find it on the Internet, it probably does not exist. This means that the wealth of resources online make it smart to have a PC at home and an Internet connection so that you can lay hands on the information you need at a moments notice.
Entertainment Both the desktop and laptop styles of PC are being manufactured as up to the minute entertainment tools that provide people with a way to watch movies and play games on their PC. Children and adults alike can watch a DVD or play a realistic looking game with 3D graphics and sound and never leave home.
Work The number of individuals who are making the trek to their PC instead of the car for a job continues to rise and there are thousands of people who work from home using their PC. There are many tax incentives and other benefits associated with using a PC to earn a living at home. It is the ideal setting for stay at home moms and those who live in remote locations where traveling to work can be cost prohibitive.
Homework Both children and college students have an increasing need for a PC in the home to complete their homework. Children as young as grade school ages are being given assignments that require research and the completion of a paper that has been typed. For this and many other homework related needs, a PC in the home has become a functional need.
Whether the home is an apartment, condominium or spacious estate has no bearing on the number of these homes that have PCs in them. In some cases, a home will have several PCs that include a desk model in an office and PCs in laptop styles that can be used at home as well as on the go. With almost half of the homes in the United States having at least one PC in them, it virtually goes without saying that it is only a matter of time before the majority of all homes have one or more PCs because of their functionality, versatility and usefulness.
