Even though your son hasn't hit the teenage now, he has made it difficult for you to control him. After all, you cannot be the same old over-concerned mommy now. Your son now looks for a little independence, but you cannot deny the reality that he is still youthful. You cannot just give him the car keys and allow him to drive, after all he's not old enough to do that. Instead, provide him sovereignty in the choices he makes on his ownby himself. Interact with him about the day he had at school, or how his recent piano class was. However, make sure you do not turn into the curious-type. If your child is silent and doesn't open much, begin sharing your experiences and happenings of the day. This way ultimately, he would also start sharing.

Do remember that your child too has his self-esteem. Shouting or insulting him in front of everyone will not affect his behavior anyway. If you speak rudely with him in front of people, it is going to place a really poor impact on his emotional development. The ultimate way to change the behavior of your son is to interact with him about it softly.

The character that a boy develops is greatly determined by the friends he has at this age. To check this, you can call his friends over for a party or a sleepover. This way you will get to meet all the friends he sits with. This will assure you that his group is acceptable or not, or whether these friends are responsible for the change in the attitude he is presenting.

It is important that you realize that young boys are going to be men in future, and therefore, over restriction would not keep them bound to your regulations. They would ultimately run for freedom and the self-esteem they did not get. Therefore, to be a good parent, you have to roll the dice fair and avoid unnecessary limitations. If you are a single mother, things are going to be tougher for you. This is because you would wish to imprison him with yourself but that would only change him into a girl mentally.
