How Do Self Help Anxiety Treatments Work When Other Anxiety Treatments Don't?

I remember that when my anxiety disorder was at its worst I could barely think , so self help treatment sounded ridiculous. When I woke up in the mornings my head was so Full of worry and anxiety; helping myself seemed to be the last thing that I was capable of.
But that is exactly why they work so well.
One of the key things about self help programs is that they do exactly what it says on the box; they train you how to sort out your own anxietyso that you will always have someone to hand who can help you deal with your anxiety and worry, when you need that help the most, when you are alone. That someone is you!
Take counselling or cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as an alternative to anxiety self help. Both of them is likely to mean one, possibly two, hour long sessions with a trained therapist each week. You would talk about your problems in detail, discussing your symptoms, talk through the implications and come up with a plan of action. For some people that really helps, it helps them to become self aware and deal with their anxiety disorder. What I found was that the way I thought was "how can anyone else really understand my anxiety?" And how can being treated for one or two hours per week be helpful when you suffer from anxiety 24/7?
Every one of us has ended up with anxiety in our own individual way. What makes up our personality, the life experiences, how others have influenced us in our formative years are all peculiar to us. You will never find two people who share exactly the same beliefs as each other about everything.
I believe that this is the very reason why, we are the ones who will best understand our own anxiety disorder and, when we do, we are available to help with our own treatment whenever we need it.
So anxiety self help programmes are designed to give us the tools to heal ourselves and that is incredibly powerful, because once you understand your anxiety, what it is, how it came about, you take away all its power and leave yourself feeling strong and in charge.
