Thanks to the shortage of qualified nurses, it is no wonder that the position of Registered Nurse is the hottest job anticipated for the next several years. So RN to BSN Online courses are exploding. In fact, because of this shortage, many people who are earning nursing degrees can really write their own ticket to a great job, this has been a boon for the RN to BSN Online.

Whats frustrating for applicants is that most nursing schools cannot handle all of the people interested in getting into this profession. The reason? The main reason is the shortage of instructors and space in the actual classrooms. Thats where the RN to BSN Online comes in.

I, for one, am still trying to understand how this shortage came to be. Starting salaries for many RNs is pretty reasonable.

The problem lies in the fact that many nursing educators are retiring and there is not enough nurses with a Bachelor of Science degree to fill the nursing educator positions. In addition, because the pay for a nursing teacher is less than what an RN could make at a hospital or doctor's office. There are steps being taken to increase the attractiveness of becoming a nursing educator.

However, there is also the fact that these educators need at least a Bachelor's degree, something that many nurses do not have, so they look for RN to BSN online courses. I want to give kudos to the new Chamberlain College of Nursing (formerly Deaconess College of Nursing) for stepping up to the plate and expanding their RN to BSN Online degree program to accommodate the many registered nurses who want to earn their Bachelor degree but simply do not have the time to travel to a brick and mortar location.

Taking your course work online for a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing offers many a flexible and fast way to finish their RN to BSN online. Colleges who provide RN to BSN online courses have agreements set up with thousands of hospitals to enable their students to complete their clinicals. Due to a proactive approach such as this I estimate a steep increase of new nursing grads over the next decade.

Chamberlain College of Nursing has in the works to expand their unique way of delivering an RN to BSN online nationwide and this will help in a small way to control the nursing shortage. In fact the number of universities expanding their own programs to include an RN to BSN online option is expanding rapidly.

Nurses provide the foundation for the healthcare system that is critical to so many patients. I shudder to think of what will happen if this shortage is not addressed as soon as possible. Hopefully with the expanding RN to BSN online courses coming available this nursing shortage gap will start to close.
