The important fact that you need to change your car's motor oil every 3,000 miles is foremost in every car owner's mind. This is part of the preventive maintenance that owners have to do. Change oil as some car owners coin the task is a very important task to maintaining your car engine running excellently. Number one thing that you need to do is to gather all your necessary tools and materials. Once you have made up your mind that you will be doing your oil change everytime then buy some jack stands, a socket set and an oil drain pan. Make sure that you run your car's engine for at least ten minutes to heat up the oil since this will help drain it faster. Open up the hood and place the funnel and the new motor oil on top of your engine so that you do not forget to put it in afterwards.

Find the oil drain plug underneath the engine. Find your car manual if you do not know where to find it. Use a socket wrench to loosen the plug. Make sure that you have the oil pan underneath to catch the rush of the hot motor oil.

Next, change the oil filter and then proceed with changing the motor oil. Remove the oil filler cap and then position the funnel then pour the new engine oil in. Make sure that you replace the cap firmly and then check with the dipstick if you had placed the right amount of oil.
