When you are in search of a place to stay and home is not an option, you should be aware of the difference between motels and hotels. Whether you are on the road or doing serious renovation to your home, it is important to know the difference between a hotel and a motel so you can know which temporary living space would most and best suit your needs.
Motels can usually be found close to interstate highways. Motels are generally single floor buildings and are cheaper than hotels.
In order to stay at a motel you simply walk up to the front desk and pay for a room. They hand you a key and you walk to the room, usually fairly small, but still accommodating to your needs.
Hotels are more formal than motels. They have lobbies with waiting rooms, some even have bellhops and people to park your car for you. Hotels can be found in the inner city and have many stories. They also both large and small rooms, most of which are larger than any room at a motel. Sometimes you will be able to pay larger sums of money for a large pad or suite if it happens to be a special occasion.
Hotels also have restaurants. There is usually a breakfast or brunch for which you are complemented a continental breakfast and can pay extra for the special breakfast items. Some hotels also have bars if you happen to be a night owl.
The biggest thing to remember when deciding whether you wish to stay in a hotel or motel is where you need to stay. Are you going to be in the city for a while? If so, try a hotel. Are you on the road and need to leave again early in the morning? If so you should try a motel. Whatever the case, make sure you think about your needs before you spend more or less than you need to.
