There are lots of different ways that you can keep track of your investments these days. You have dedicated TV channels, you have the internet, you have a stock trading newsletter and you now have the smart phones. Which is the best?

To work out which is the best I will run through each one. Firstly I want to look at TV shows. These are great as light entertainment. It is always good to turn the TV on in the morning to see what is happening in the markets. Likewise, when you get home you can see how the markets have performed.

TV shows are quite inflexible. Yes you can learn about new things because the schedule dictates it but you won't be able to get stock trading information on demand. This is where you need the internet. With the internet you will be able to search for individual stocks and use all the research information.

A medium that has been around for a number of decades is the stock trading newsletter. Investors usually sign up and each month they receive a newsletter in the post. It is a great feeling waking up on a Saturday to read. These days there more publishing is done on the internet. I still love the feeling of receiving my copy in the post though.

Now we have smart phones such as the iPhone. With these you can do all of the above. They really are a great way of keeping up to date with the markets. You can input your portfolio into an app and follow its progress throughout the day. You can even watch TV shows and do all the research. This is only going to be improved with the introduction of the iPad.

Overall I believe you need to combine all of the above. Keep in touch with the markets on the TV, dig deeper with your research on the internet and use a stock trading newsletter to generate ideas. An easy way to do all 3 at once is by using a smart phone.
