When men start with weights then they should start with eight pounds. Other appropriate weights that would be ideal would be thirty, twenty-five, twenty, fifteen, twelve and ten pounds. These weights will cost roughly about between one and two dollars for each pound.

One would need a workout bench as well. An adjustable one is best as these can be used flat or inclined. This allows different muscle groups to be exercised.
