There are two kinds of lung nodules, cancerous and none cancerous. It estimated that chances that a lung nodule is cancerous are 40%. Lung nodules can be seen on chest-x-rays or CT scans.
The big question is what are the likely causes of lung nodules?

Histoplasmosis - This is usually caused by a fungus called Histoplasma capsulatum. The lungs can be exposed to it through the air we breathe .On exposure; it can cause infections which could lead to non- cancerous nodules developing in the lungs.

Tuberculosis - Tuberculosis is usually caused mycobacterium tuberculosis. This pathogen can is airborne and therefore if one breathes in moisture from an infected person chances are high that you going to be infected too. In the event of suffering from tuberculosis one could begin to develop nodules within the lungs. Both tuberculosis and lung nodules being asymptomatic, one can hardly notice their infection.

Hematoma-Hematoma results from injuries or irritation that could cause blood pool and swell as well. Its formation can trigger the growth of non-cancerous nodules around the lung linings.

Vascular abnormalities - Vascular abnormalities a pulmonary obstruction or congestion of the lung that has capability of triggering the formation of a nodule. The resultant nodules are non-cancerous though.

Lung cancer - Abnormal cells resulting from cancer could trigger the development of cancerous nodules along the lung lining.

60% of lung nodules are none-cancerous. Chances are high are that lung nodules are non-cancerous if;

You don't smoke.
You don't work in environments that expose you to risks of lung cancer.
The lung nodule is growing slowly or very fast.
The lung nodule is irregular in shape and looks smooth.
