The success of business doesn't just happen. Any good CEO knows that running a successful business takes vision, acumen, responsibility, and a knock-em dead business plan. A savvy business person understands the importance and has absolutely no problem planning out how they are going to achieve their goals for success. For most people, they don't think to apply business practices to their personal lives. So how can you change this? How can you apply the knowledge and skills used by successful business people and parlay them into a successful personal life? How can you become the CEO of your own life?

Getting the Big Picture

The biggest difference between those who are in control of their own lives and those who aren't is in their ability to view the big picture. The CEO of a company understands the organization's goals and objectives and uses these to create a realistic master plan for the business to follow. It stands to reason, therefore, that the person who is the CEO of their own life will do the same. But how does a company CEO know what their organization's goals and objectives are?

In order to create a successful master plan for a business or organization, the CEO usually makes use of the company's vision and mission statement to ensure that the goals that they set for their company are in alignment with their overall objectives. The same holds true with creating the life your desire.

Do you have a vision for your life? Have you ever written out your mission statement? Without these two incredibly important organizational tools you will have a difficult time being able to determine your life's overall objectives, let alone be able to create a master plan with manageable goals.

One of the best ways to get yourself organized in regards to viewing the whole picture of your life, is to sit back and imagine where you wish to see yourself in five, ten and twenty years from today. Take your time; picture it clearly in your head. On a piece of paper write down what you see; who are you with? What do you look like? How do you feel?

Once you have finished, you can look at these increments; at where you see yourself and from them determine what it is that you want out of life; what your vision for your life is; and why it is that you think that you are here (your mission). Go ahead and write these down. Once you have them written down you will be able to move onto the next important stage of becoming the CEO of your life; setting your life's goals.

The Power of Goal Setting

The power of goal setting cannot be underestimated when it comes to becoming the CEO of your personal life. A successful CEO is able to look at the whole project and break it down into manageable chunks to be accomplished by specific times. This same approach is also highly effective when it comes to creating a successful life.

Using your life's vision and mission statements, you can now create for yourself a Master Plan, a list of objectives that will bring you to your final destination; that will help you to achieve your overall life's objective. There's just one problem, the overall life objective may be absolutely clear in your mind, but it is important to break up the steps to achieving that objective into manageable chunks that will not overwhelm you and cause you to become discouraged. This is where goal setting truly comes into its own and if you follow your master plan, they will lead you to the kind of life that you have always wanted, and the success that can easily be yours.
