Emergency packs don't seem that important until something goes wrong. You never know when you might need one. There are many reasons to have an emergency survival pack. Some examples include natural disasters, loss of electricity, bad weather, or a humanitarian aid trip.

But what does that have to do with you? “Those things are not going to happen to me, right?” The truth is that these situations can happen to anyone, and this will help you know what you need in a survival pack.

What makes a good survival pack? Below are 11 things that are “must haves” in a survival pack:

1. An easily carried backpack that has enough room for what you want in the pack.

2. A water filter is a must! You never know when the water you have to drink will get contaminated.

3. A First Aid Kit is an essential component of a survival pack for unexpected injuries.

4. Matches or a fire starter (flint starter). If you need to keep warm or cook anything you can start a fire.

5. A cook kit with silverware is very important so you can cook your meals.

6. Food!! The easiest to store and travel with is freeze-dried food. Mountain House is a great company that supplies these items.

7. A utility knife is very nice to have because you can use it for various purposes.

8. A flashlight is a must have in order to see in the dark due to loss of electricity.

9. A sleeping bag is important to ensure warmth for sleeping. In the spontaneity of emergencies, normal sleeping arrangements can be changed.

10. An emergency radio can help you know what is happening in the emergency. A crank radio is nice because you do not have to worry about the batteries dying.

11. A tent is very important. You may or may not have shelter in a certain emergency, and a tent is usually easy to assemble in order to have shelter.

Even though many other items can be included in emergency packs, the list above should be able to give you the essentials for any emergency situation you may encounter.
