Somebody really should have thought of this sooner!! I was very skeptical when my son asked for this for Christmas. But, it was at the top of his list, so I gave in. We had so much fun with this when we opened it! It is huge!
The remote operates two parts of the air swimmers shark. There is a left/right button that controls the tail-fin. Alternating (right, left, right, left) on these buttons causes the shark to move straight forward. If you press to one side more often (ie right right left right right left), the shark turns.
The remote also controls a battery pack which runs on a track system attached to the underbelly of the shark. The track runs from the head to half-way to the tail. The remote can cause the battery pack to move along the track to the head which weighs down the head and makes the shark dive. Or it makes the battery pack move along the track toward the tail, thus shifting the weight and allowing the head to raise up. The shark then travels upward when the tail-fin is waved.
The above mentioned battery pack has a compartment in which you can put a poster putty like material. Make small beads of the putty and add enough to make your shark neutrally buoyant in the air. Too much putty and the shark will sink to the ground. Not enough putty and the shark will stay up at the ceiling and hit your lighting fixtures.
I have only found two cons for this product. One is that the fin material is very thin and could easily rip. I suppose this is necessary so as not to weigh down the balloon. They have not ripped yet. The other con is that this thing is HUGE. I also listed this as a pro earlier. After filling the shark balloon with helium, it just kinda hangs out in your house until you are ready to fly it. It has been perfectly buoyant for a few days. I don't know how long it will stay afloat before it needs refilled. I have come downstairs in the morning to find that it has floated from the kitchen to the bottom of the steps and is staring at me. There's nothing like going to get your much-needed coffee fix and seeing a gigantic shark staring you down!
I have the shark and first off, it looks way cool. People who see it flying are intrigued and delighted. The only thing that could be improved would be the radio reception. Line of sight is critical and even then, it doesn't seem to have the claimed 40ft range. This would be an excellent revision/upgrade. Also it would be nice if replacement parts were provided or at least available by the manufacturer, so you don't have to scrap a whole shark if a fin breaks. Overall it is way fun though! hours of entertainment and so many great applications (i enjoy flying mine at the high ceilinged local bar). Until there is a model with better remote reception, this thing really cant be beat for the money.
The flying shark is too cute, so that the children have to run around it until lunch time to see the children so happy, I am also very happy, this is really a very good shopping.
