Proclaim 2012 As Your Year!

How many of your 2011 resolutions did you make this year? Every year, millions of people come up with goals, large and small, for New Year's, but a full 70% of them will completely forget about those lofty goals by May. What starts out as great intentions rapidly heads downhill as the reality of life sets in. But it doesn't have to be that way.

The part where things get tricky is taking your resolutions from goal to reality. Often, people set goals that are too big for the year and don't actually consider how they will reach them. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to ensure that in 2012, your goals will become reality.

Be realistic. The most important thing to remember when setting your goals is to consider how much you can actually do. One of the biggest mistakes people make is setting their sights too high. While it's good to have big goals, they should also include a workable time frame. Don't try to go from earning $1 to a million in a year, for example. It's fine to make long term goals and then set a smaller goal as your 12 month plan.

Plan ahead. Don't just decide what you want and leave it at that. To really be successful, you not only need to know where you're going, but how you are getting there. Sit down and plan out the various steps necessary to reach the end goal. This does take more time, but when you're finished, you can track your progress more efficiently. You will also feel more accomplished because you will hit mini goals every so often. Look at weekly and monthly goals, as well as the yearly one.

Know your obstacles. Everyone has obstacles in their lives. As long as you are prepared for them, they don't have to be roadblocks, just things you need to work around. Some things can be predicted and for those, you should try to come up with a solution before you are facing the challenge head on. For the unexpected occurrences, all you can do is prepare the best you can, allowing a little extra time for potential issues and have an emergency fund, plus backup if you ever need it. Even having someone who can take the kids in an emergency can be a huge help and is good to have planned out ahead of time.

Get some help. It's not always possible to do things on your own. If you are struggling with reaching those dreams of yours, why not invest in yourself and hire a life coach to help you get where you want to be? It's like investing in classes to improve your life and often much faster. You'll have someone to give you a clearer view of things and help you through the rough spots, too.

2012 can be a good year if you're prepared. Plan ahead and don't be afraid to ask for help.
