Dreaming of a better life? While thinking up ideas and building castles in the air is great fun, there comes a time where you need to get off your bottom and make things happen. Dreams are nice, but they're insubstantial and will never bring you true happiness . . . for that, you need to make them come true.

Getting There from Here

A vision board can be a good next step in turning your ideas into reality. They take on a physical form this way and you can then work on actually reaching your goals. Just imagining what it would be like if you were successful or if you had your dream house isn't going to be enough, though this is an excellent way to figure out just what you want out of life.

With a vision board, you actually visualize what you want, turning dreams into intentions. Take a few hours to cut out pictures of what you desire or you might want to draw them. There are programs that will also let you do this, but you can create a collage for free, as well.

Now you have the representation of your dreams in front of you, what's next? How are you going to make the leap from where you are at this very moment to where you really want to be?

Step by Step Planning

Reaching your goals is not as simple as closing your eyes and wishing on a star, unfortunately. It takes time to plan your approach and then to execute it. Sit down and list the steps necessary to reach your goals, one at a time. For example, if your goal is to open your own gym, you would need to research the business, raise capital, rent a space, purchase the equipment, etc.

Now you have a list of general steps to reach your goals, how are you going to meet each of these mini goals? How do you plan to raise capital for your venture? These are the action steps that will actually get you from where you are to your dream life. They should be small enough that you won't be overwhelmed by them, but big enough to make a difference.

The final step is to simply follow the path you have set for yourself. If you've done a good job of planning, you should reach your goals. If not, you may need to rethink your strategies and work out a new plan. Keep evaluating your progress (that's why it's important to write everything down!) and adjust your course as necessary.

Don't settle for dreaming. Take the next step and start turning your fantasies into real life. You won't be sorry you did.
