Participating the speaking industry can be both frightening and interesting. It is an exceptional environment where you can make a real conflict, in the lives of your audience. It is a gratifying and challenging industry to be part of. If you are ready to become a professional speaker, try these tips:
1. Get a guru - look for a speaker who is a brilliant in their field and is eager to share one hour a month with you for 6 months. Create a schedule for each meeting, set up your prospect before the mentoring begins and reward them with your honesty, loyalty and promote them to others whenever you have an opportunity.
2. Find a friend - make a friend with another speaker who is at a similar stage to you in their speaking career to be able to share ideas, questions, frustrations and wins with them.
3. Create a genius group - find 3-4 other speakers who are new and eager to meet each month to savvy ideas, share learning, provide tips and give confidence each other on your path to become a victorious professional speaker. You may schedule your meeting to occur before your monthly National Speakers Association meeting.
4. Try to attend all (NSA) National Speakers Association meetings - make this necessary in your month to be present at these meetings that will improve your skills, understanding you to proficient speakers and build relationships with people in your industry.
5. Contact speakers you esteem - email, phone or write to speakers you respect and let them know you are new and you would like to learn from them. Most people are willing to give you time, provide advice and share their experience with you.
6. Go to National Speakers Association convention - agenda an annual meeting in your diary to expose yourself to the best in the speaking industry, build your skills and meet people who are reaching their speaking goals. You may like to connect this with a vacation to an overseas destination.
7. Try to Get involved in the National Speakers Association committee - volunteer to help your local chapter with the meeting, greeting new members, authorization programs or strategy, there are so many roles that could be appropriate for you. It is a very pleasing experience.
8. Attend toastmasters - find a good group and learn more about your expertise.
9. Borrow resources from other speakers - when you start out you may not have important resources so borrow tapes, videos, books and resources from other speakers. When you become a well known, highly paid speaker you can do the same for new speakers.
10. Subscribe to (PSM) Professional Speaker Magazine - devote in your self-growth with some of the most excellent tools in the industry.
