Foot Drop Splint can be used in all the conditions of foot drop.

The need for these type of splints is rather limited in leprosy patients. The drop foot, resulting from paralysis or arrested . development, is a frequent infirmity.... It is practically a form of splint, cast of aluminum to the shape of the leg and foot. The metal is carried under the entire foot

Drop-foot splints are designed for paralytic drop- foot and consist of two steel bars connected just below the knee by a metal band covered with leather. When there is drop-foot, the weak or paralysed muscles in the front of the leg get pulled and stretched, and that delays their recovery. A simple and easily made Drop Foot splint .

Drop foot describes an abnormal neuromuscular disorder that affects the patients ability to raise their foot at the ankle.

There are two complications from Drop foot as follows:

I. The patient cannot control the falling of their foot after heel strike, so that it
slaps the ground on every step.
II. The inability to clear their toe during swing, this causes the patient to drag their
toe on the ground throughout swing.

For this treatment patients may be fitted with AFO, brace or splint that's fit into the shoe to stabilize the ankle or foot to restore the motion or to constrain and inhibit abnormal motion of the ankle foot complex.

One type of drop foot brace or AFO that is used in some cases of drop foot is a brace/ that is known as short leg AFO with a fixed hinge (no flexing at ankle joint). This kind of AFO is lightweight and easily fits into a patients shoes. This AFO affords excellent control of the foot for the patient and is good for those who suffer drop foot and also suffer from a very flat foot.

Drop-foot splints is having perforated design is made out of strong and durable polypropylene.

A simple drop foot brace is a very useful appliance, permitting the patient to assume the most comfortable position in bed without losing the preventive effect of measures guarding against drop foot.
