Martha, 62, has been running her own little gasoline station in a small town at the foot of the Green Mountains in the southwest portion of Wyoming. It caters mostly to old-timers who frequent the trails and of first-time vacationers lured by the natural beauty of the state. It has been a rather uneventful 40 years since the gas station-cum-convenience store was built with a steady stream of patrons and quite a few new ones. What made the store unique was its simply laid back system that allowed customers to just fill up or take whatever they want from the shelves and just leave the payment at a small basket on the counter top. And yes, they can get their change from the basket, too. Truly, the small Wyoming station thrived on the value of trust.
Martha had been doing correspondence for a local daily for the past seven years. It has been her pastime since her husband passed away because of cancer. Their five children have already families of their own and are living in other parts of Wyoming. Oh, they do visit her once in a while.
Now, Martha thought of having to systematize her work, both at the gas station and as a local correspondent. She wanted to have her own website but cannot enlist the help of a professional website designer because of some limitations. During Martha's recent birthday, her son gave her a brand new computer to replace the already-dilapidated PC in her desk. It came free with a website installation CD which immediately caught Martha's attention. Although most would consider Wyoming a rather backward state, Martha is never one to miss an opportunity.
Martha knew that she could re-introduce her gas station not only to the citizens of Wyoming but to the people of the world who frequent sites of novelty and human interest stories. Martha installed the web application and cautiously read each line and message instructions that pop out to direct her next action.
First, she was made to select a web style from the application's vast examples of web-templates. She chose what page types to use in conveying to the whole world the beauty of her small Wyoming town. She also placed additional pages that she thinks will be useful in creating a beautiful picture of her goal. The good thing is that the computer program readily affixes a navigation menu to the pages. It also registers all the pages that were created in the application's organizer.
After the initial web style selection, Martha was then asked to personalize her web pages. She decided on the web pages she wanted to make unique on the website organizer. She wrote a few striking and memorable words - words that convey the beauty and warmth of her native land. She also placed captivating pictures and colorful images and added multimedia files to make the virtual travel to the small Wyoming town a memorable one. It took quite some time for her to really personalize her pages.
Once content with what she has done, Martha then looked at the other web-related functions of the computer application. With this command, Martha was able to name her site. She also fixed the navigation texts on the web pages. Martha also placed her blogs and some podcasts in the pages and embedded a few enhancing elements. All Martha needed to do now was to publish her creation.
Since Martha's finances are limited, she wanted to try out her website first. In order for her to do this for free, Martha signed up for an account with the manufacturer of her computer to allow her the right to use a 60-day trial web-hosting server. Now satisfied with her work, Martha knew she would have to work for the cost of the membership fee in order for her to continuously enjoy the benefits of her very own website. She doesn't want the world to miss out on anything this side of Wyoming, does she?
