The ocean along the Mexican coast is home to many different kinds of exotic fish. The abundance of these fish is what makes going sport fishing in Mexico such a popular activity. Fishermen from all over come to these waters in pursuit of the best catch. Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Snook, and Tarpon are just a few of the many kinds of fish that swim along the coast of Mexico.

Blue Marlin is a popular fish for sport fishermen in Mexico. Being the heaviest and largest of the marlins they are a very tough fish to catch. The Blue Marlin puts up a big fight and has an incredible jumping range. September through November is the prime season for catching any kind of Marlin with October being the best month.

The Black Marlin can be hard to distinguish from the Blue Marlin. The stripe on the back of the Black Marlin is much darker than that of the Blue. The Black Marlin is also more aggressive and much harder to reel in. For many fishermen the Black Marlin will fight for many hours, and a lot of the time it wins.

One of the most beautiful fish in Mexico's oceans is the Sailfish. It is an elegant jumper, but it also is easier to reel in than the Marlin since they tire out much faster. These fish swim in the oceans off of Mexico year round, but autumn is the best time to catch them. Trolling using live bait or lures, and kite fishing are proven ways to catching Sailfish.

The Wahoo fish can be found off the coast of Mexico during the summer months. They are easy to find either around reefs or further out in the ocean. Tuna, squid, small mackerel, and puffers are some of the prey that the Wahoo feeds on.

If you are looking in lagoons among the snags or out in the open waters you can find a common fish in Central America called Snook. Snook are temperature sensitive as are most fish. The deeper waters are home to the largest of the Snook.

Tarpon can be found year round, but the largest Tarpon are more abundant in June and July. One out of five Tarpons are actually reeled in on average. Tarpon fishing has been said to be one of the most enjoyable experiences for fishing in shallow water due to exciting display the fish gives when shaking the hook.

The oceans off the coast of Mexico is a popular destination for fishermen from all over. A wide variety of fish can be found here all year round giving fishermen challenging, memorable, and unique experiences.
