Make Your PC Run Faster With Registry Cleanup
Most people who use a PC will eventually begin to notice a gradual decrease in their computer's speed and overall response time. You might see this slowdown while you're browsing the Internet, launching a computer application or even while you're just trying to open a document. You might also start receiving some strange error messages during your PC's bootup routine, such as a notice that a file is missing. Your first instinct might be to blame this on a virus, and that could be the case. But many people don't realize that sometimes the only thing your computer needs in order to regain its optimal performance is a registry cleanup, sometimes called a reg clean.
A registry cleanup can be accomplished manually or by using a registry cleaner. If you are even vaguely familiar with the PC registry, you know that it contains so much detailed information that manually cleaning it is time consuming and highly technical, so much so that it is often impractical. Fortunately, many tools are now available to help you perform a thorough registry cleanup. These tools will look for dead links, old applications and suspicious referencing (which could be a sign of a subtle attack by malware) during each reg clean. One of the most common causes of PC crashes are junk files that were stored even though they were only needed one time. A reg clean will find these junk files and lead you through the process of eliminating them safely, without affecting your useful data. You can quickly avoid some potential problems by performing a reg clean, and it is often the best way to go.
Registry cleaners can do a lot of good, but you need to use them with utmost caution. Your PC's registry is probably the most sensitive portion of its software (logical) component. Make one wrong move, even a small one, and your computer could immediately crash, files could get corrupted and applications could stop working altogether. Even though you would expect the developers of reg clean tools to be experts, you should not depend just on them because if something were to go wrong, it will be your problem when the dust settles. This risk is bad enough, but there is something even worse. Some registry cleanup tools (freeware is particularly notorious) contain malware and use the registry cleaner tag solely as a way to gain access to your computer.
You can do three things to protect yourself from the potential dangers of a reg clean. To begin with, before you choose a software tool for registry cleanup, read the software's reviews. You'll need to watch for spoof review sites which can provide fake reviews. Instead, look for well established, authoritative and credible review websites and read the reviews there. Next, ask a techie friend for advice on which reg clean tool to use, or even better, hire a computer expert to advise you. Remember that the computer expert might be an interested party, especially if he or she will be the person from whom you'll buy the registry cleanup tool. Weigh that person's comments carefully and cross-check them with one or two other experts.
Lastly, do not be afraid to spend. With so much freeware available on the internet that promises to do just about anything under the sun, it is very tempting to just download and start using any registry cleanup application. Not all freeware is bad. However, cost should never be your main determinant for selecting the tool to use for the reg clean. |
