All things have good as well as bad points. If they are used in a proper manner, and in a restricted quantity, they do not cause harm.

However, when something is used in excess, it tends to cause harm; according to a general saying, excess of everything is harmful.

Things that are abused instead of being used result in various damages. In case alcohol is taken in a particular quantity, it results in numerous benefits. Diseases such as heart diseases can be helped by alcohol in limited amounts. However, using it in excess can lead to fatalities. There is a distinct possibility of permanent and temporary damage to the person, his/her family, and the people around him/her depending on the drinking habits. If people consume a few drinks sometimes according to a restricted amount, no harm is usually caused.

Numerous people are alcohol addicts, similar to drug addicts. In accordance with research, if taken in a small amount, alcohol aids the brain to release hormones that reduce anxiety. The effect is negated if alcohol is consumed in a large quantity.

Alcohol dependants are usually known as alcoholics, and they tend to experience the same feeling, and cravings for more use, as drug addicts do in case of drugs. According to studies, alcohol is the cause of more than sixty kinds of diseases. Although a few of them may be temporary, some are permanent. Due to intoxication, a person can cause harm to the people around him, and accidents can occur.

People who become alcohol dependants are generally called alcoholics. A person dependant on alcohol has the same feeling and cravings for more consumption as the drug addicts have for the drugs.

Moreover, depression can result in suicide attempts. Alcoholics are unable to function in the absence alcohol consumption, however in case of excess, the person become intoxicated, and cannot gain his/her objectives.

Alcohol consumption in excess causes brain damage, the consequences of which are neuropsychiatric and neurological issues.

An alcoholic cannot function without alcohol consumption, but when he takes too much, he become intoxicated and cannot achieve his targets. Excessive alcohol consumption leads to brain damage, which in turn causes many neuropsychiatric and Neurological defects.

A consistent, heavy dependence on alcohol may lead to brain shrinkage, impairment of brain chemistry, and dementia. In addition, it negates growth of brain cells; therefore, causing memory loss, and causing damage to learning abilities.

Youngsters, who have abused alcohol in the past, do not show adequate progress as far as studies are concerned, due to their learning disability caused by excessive consumption of alcohol. Hence, it can be concluded that excessive use of alcohol is as harmful as drug addiction, and should definitely be prevented.

So, we can say that excessive use of alcohol is equally harmful as drug addiction. It should be avoided in any circumstances. If someone among your family and friends is in this habit, you must take them to the rehabilitation centre before any permanent damage occurs.
