Your character is one thing that defines you. It is either pleasant or not. Character is built over the years. It started when you were very young. Parents usually take the greatest part of a person’s character formation. What they taught them during his younger years will serve as his foundation for his future character.
Although character is influenced by others, it is still the person’s decision on what trait to acquire. But most of the time, he adapts certain unpleasant traits unnoticeable which makes him insensitive to others responses to the way he deals with them.
For some, what others say does not matter. But for most, it is often worthwhile to hear what others think of you. It is a great way of knowing yourself better and learning how others perceive you. It is also an opportunity to clear some misconception about you and hear some suggestion on how you can improve yourself. This does not mean that you have to change into someone you are not. You will not buy hair straighteners immediately after one suggested that you straighten your hair, right? Before you consider his suggestion, you will look at yourself in the mirror and check if it does look good on you.
Hearing others’ suggestions is like that. You don’t follow them right away, you think about it first and assess if it is the right thing to do. Not everyone has a very likable character. And even if you are someone who has one, you cannot please everybody. To make sure that other people like who you are, follow the golden rule; if you don’t like to be treated in such a way, don’t treat others that way. If you are annoyed by people who are so conceited, then don’t be like one. Most of the time, we hate others because of a certain trait only to find out that we act the same way they do.
If you want to assess your character, you have to recall the past things that you have done. Think of the people who are closest to you. Are they still there? Do they like having you around? Do you have a lot of good friends and do they keep in touch? If people come and go in your life as fast as the fashion trend goes, then you probably need talk to someone you can trust. They may have something to say that you don’t know yet; something that no hair straighteners can change.
And try not to resist what you will hear. It is often difficult to hear unpleasant things about you from someone, but you have to be open to that before change can take place.
Your character says a lot about who you are. And since it is something you have developed during your lifetime, it is difficult to change when you found out that only few people can stand it. If you want to change, you have to assess yourself and listen to what others have to say. It would be better if you talk to someone you can trust and do your best to change for the better. |
