Sometimes when you take the bath, all of sudden very cold or very hot water start coming out of the shower and could seriously harm you. Adults and children need to be very alert to prevent this problem. Anti-scald valve or thermostatic temperature control valve in the shower helps in eliminating this problem.
Anti scald pressure balanced and temperature control valves make a shower very efficient and useful. Sometimes very cold water start flowing through the shower head and sometimes very hot water start coming out of it. All these problems are removed with the help of such valves. Hence, while purchasing a shower head, don't forget to take one that has anti-scald valve.
These valves maintain water temperature at a safe level, despite fluctuations in water supply lines. One of the simplest scald-prevention measures you can take is to lower the water heater thermostat to 120 degrees. To check your hot water's temperature, place a meat thermometer in a glass and run hot water into it for a couple of minutes.
The basic reason behind unbalanced water temperature is change of water pressure. Water pressure of cold water in a shower may get low when any other person uses toilet flush at the same time or open any other cold water faucet. Due to this lowering of cold water pressure, extremely hot water start coming out of the faucet.
On contrary, if a person in house opens up any hot water faucet, it reduces the water temperature of water coming out of the shower.
To eliminate the problem of water pressure, you can buy a shower head having pressure balancing valve. With the help of this valve the pressure of water could be maintained that also help in maintaining a constant water temperature. In addition to solving so many problems, this pressure balancing valve creates the problem of water flow.
For few people a good water flow and high volume of water is very essential. Such people should go with thermostatic valves as these valves have around 3/4 inch water inlet and the flow of water through these valves is very high. It also helps in maintaining the required water temperature.
A plumber is required to change the single handled valve with pressure balanced valve. However, replacing the dual handled setup is little difficult. |
